My office

I thought it might be nice to display a picture of my office. In fact, I 'm not sure why but I do not think I have a picture of my office on my website. I think I need to correct that. I have been here for 26 years and we are just about out of space. within the next 5 years I plan to be in a bigger space or another building to handle all o the growth we have been experiencing in the past several years.

I have approximately 3000 square feet in this facility and we use almost every area.

Time flies when you - BUSY

Last Saturday I "pulled an all nighter". I haven't done that for a long time. But my wife Marla and Son Noah were gone visiting a friend that had just had a baby in Texas. (Thank goodness for Delta Skymiles and free trips associated with them!) So, I had a weekend to do what I wanted to... I wanted to work ON my Practice and not just IN my practice. I had a few patient files - Personal Injury reports to do - but I mainly worked on improving the systems of my practice.

I have been using a wonderful paper scanning system to transfer much of the paper in my practice and store in on the secure server. I have 5 different daily backups of the data and it is really making the communication system so much more efficient. All of the staff have e-mail that we send all of the paperwork in the practice with PDF attachment so much of the practice is becoming paperless.

I when up to Fort Wayne hospital to see my father. He has been there for about a week now. Dehydrated and weak... I took him some protein drinks, protein bars, and whole food supplements ... He is not really doing all that well. I wonder .... My Mom passed away in October of 2003 and all of this just makes you sit down and wonder what all the business and fast flying time is all about.

I got a call from my oldest son Kyle on the way back from visiting with my Dad. I am so proud of him. He is spending a year - maybe more -with a wonderful group called the Masters Commission in Phoenix, Arizona at the First Phoenix Church of God. It is a terrific mix between a mentoring, discipleship, and bible college rolled into a fabulous life experience. He is a part of something in his life that for a whole year straight - he will be creating wonderful memories. He always starts off his conversation with me with "Dad I have been SO BUSY!!!" I think to myself.... that is what he has always seen from parents - how could he do any thing less? I plan to create many more memories with him when he gets home for the summer.

I have always been BUSY in my life. As I get older, and hopefully wiser, I am making great strides in being busy with the things that will be the important things for me or others to remember. When I was in the Hospital visiting my Dad I found my self saying things like..."Dad remember when I was little and you......" You know the kind of story. You see, THAT is what we want to have to talk about with those that we love, The REMEMBER WHEN's.....

Life is not all about getting great chiropractic care... But part of it is... The trick is "Remembering When" to do the right things in our lives on a consistent basis.

I "remember when" for a lot of things my life. I don't talk about them all to everyone. Some "remember whens" are just for you to remember.

Those are the ones you remember when time flies by too fast and you stop to take inventory of what is happening... You know what I mean? When was the last time in your busy day you took time to do a "Remember When"? Do you remember?

Take a moment today - do some "remember whens" and give them a call!

Great to be with other Chiropractors!!!

I just returned from teaching the 7th chiropractor Boot Camp Seminar with Dr. Ron Farabaugh. I had the best time!! It is so good to be with other chiropractors from across the state of Ohio. We had over 115 attend the seminar in Columbus on Thursday and over 80 attend the seminar in Canton on Saturday. I really enjoy teaching and presenting new and exciting ideas that will help more people have the opportunity to be helped by another chiropractor.

I have also discovered that I am apparently fast becoming known as technical guru type chiropractor. Or something like that. I am not sure but I have always enjoyed working with computers to see just how they can make my life easier. I want to have more of an opportunity to share what I have learned with other chiropractors as well as my patients.

Cathy, My office manager and I are writing a program that will make educating patients more streamlined and efficient. We are thinking of an idea that will create a patient education program to help patients do the things that we recommend to them to do and integrate home care with their appointments in the office here.

The idea keeps growing.....

Looking at the past.

Very interesting last few days. I have hired a new front desk person and we are preparing to train an orient her to the practice. The interesting thing is that I can see that this training process will be the easiest training time we have ever had. Over the years we have created written office policies and training videos for new staff to listen to so that understand how we do things here at the Sheely Chiropractic Clinic.

But this time, we are transferring all of our training videos on the server and will be playing them through a program that Cathy, my office manager wrote that has an easy to use interface for repeat training for staff.

Why am I talking about this? Because it is proven systems that make my life easier. I do not have to re-create the training system each time someone changes their employment with me. It is a successful system. It is something that will need to be checked once in a while instead of something that has to be created from the ground up every time we need it.

Maybe it is like how our cars work for us... we do not have to go out and create a new form of transportation each time we need to go some place. We already have a "system" sitting in our garage or driveway that is "proven". That is what I am talking about. Doing work that has value and stays around after it is done the first time. I need to continue to think of ways that I could only do the things that last and not the things that fade away. Hmmm .. sounds like a spiritual discussion.

The profit centers of our lives

Ok, so it takes me a while sometimes. I have understood the idea about creating profit centers within my practice for quite some time during the pursuit of a strong successful business. The idea being that one has to create several centers within the business that profit and can stand on their own within the business. It works of course as all successful business people know - you have to treat each area as a separate business and have a profit and loss statement for each area.

The same concept applies to the other parts of our lives besides our work or careers. Profit centers in family, social, financial, spiritual, mental, and physical as well as the career area need to be looked at this way. How different would we look at our family life if we created "profit centers" within the family and created systems that would make these areas be profitable and produce "Great Products" and cause them to be exchanged to the "Great products" that others in the family produce. I know it sound a little odd - but for someone like me that looks at everything like a business - it makes sense.

All of these areas need to be profitable in the way that they were intended to be profitable. The profit for family life would be harmony, love, companionship, happiness, pleasure, etc... you know all of the things that all of us want within our families.

The only way for this to work is to analyze each area and find out what the end profits for each area should be and make a plan to produce those in each. Building systems and communication structures to make successful "business" venture occur in each area is an interesting challenge.

I will let you know my progress. What do you think about it?
