Stopping Time

This is one of the coolest videos I have ever seen. I love the teamwork. What great cool thing. Did it change the world? nah.... Did it make a major difference in somebody's life? nah... Does it make you think if 200 people got together and did some great things for a family or a community for a week.... would that change a life or a community? Absolutlely!

Technology is Changing Health Care Right Now!

This is fascinating to me. I have found that technology has helped me save time and money in my practice and clearly it helps provide better more detailed care to my patients. If you are a patient you should be getting my e-mail newsletter every two to four weeks. I use it to keep you informed about what it happening in my office http://www.sheelychiro.com/ and new services that you can look forward to.

Of course you are more than welcome and encouraged to sign-up for my practice newsletter if you are not getting it. Just send me an e-mail and we wil get you added. drrob@sheelychiro.com Technology in health care is something I am very interested in as I also own a website company that specializes in business websites. http://www.sheelywebsites.com/ We just released a new business software (Cathy, my amazing office manager and I wrote it) that allows any business to take payments for their products or services by phone, by fax, or by e-mail/web.

http://www.prestochecks.com/ Any business should download the free full fuction software to see if they like reducing their credit card fees to zero!!!

Dr. Sheely Breaks Leg and keeps on Adjusting!

Yes, that is correct. I did slip and fall and break my leg. To be exact I broke the distal part of my tibia with a clean classic spiral fracture with an associated proximal spiral fracture of the fibula. I was a nice clean break. Want to see?

I was able to try out the new Atrium Medical Center!

Here I am at the New Atrium Medical Center sending a picture of x-rays showing my broken leg to my family. The Atrium has high speed wireless Internet connection and I was able to inform my Dad, brothers and sisters before they could get me set up with a temporary cast.

I have to say that everyone there was very professional and was very nice to me. They took very good care of me. I have used Middletown Hospital as one of the facilities that I send my patient to for diagnostic testing. I believe the Atrium will be a wonderful place to send my patients for X-rays, Cat Scans, MRIs, Bloodwork and other outside testing that I require to take care of my patients.

For the first week and a half after I broke my leg, I had a temporary cast on until the swelling went down. On December 28th, 2007 I had a permanent cast put on. Healing time varies - but I plan to heal as fast or faster than anyone. I am still able to see patients just fine. I balance on a walker while I adjust. We have rearranged it so that patients come into one room to see me rather than me going into different rooms. It is certainly more efficient that way.

I figured that I could be at home resting or at the office taking take of patients - taking care of patients seemed a lot more fun to me. So I was back seeing patients on Tuesday after I broke my leg on Sunday. And no - I am not putting any pressure on it. Yes I am taking supplements to help me heal. I am getting plenty of rest. I am getting adjusted myself! And I am even using an electronic bone stimulator that is supposed to heal the bone in about one-third of the time.
So - "Come see the Chiropractor take care of patients with a broken leg"!

Don't You Just Love This?

I love this little short video. Simple quick and effective. That's what a chiropractic adjustment is like. Sometimes it seems so simple that people find it hard to believe that an adjustment can do anything. Yes simple - but connected to the most powerful influence our bodies have - the Nervous System!

I am Not against the use of Drugs.

No, I am not against the use of drugs. Really - I tell people all the time if I get run over by a truck - take me to the hospital - sew me up - give me drugs and medication and blood. That is where the health care system in America shines. But "Health Care" - "REAL Health Care" is what "Healthy People" do to get and stay healthy. There is a big difference between "Feeling Good" and "Being Healthy". I just think that people should have a chance to see whether Chiropractic care and natural remedies might help them get rid of the CAUSE of the pain or discomfort, or symptom before attempting to cover it up or deal with it through pain medication and risk the potential side effects. Doesn't that just make sense?

A Chiropractic Story - written in 1997

There was an eleven year old boy in swimming trunks in the back of a Scout International truck traveling to Devil's Lake in Michigan. His Mom and Dad, Older brother and his wife and his younger brother all heard a high pitched screech of tires as the car behind them tried to past on a hill. The car slammed into the left rear bumper of the Scout and proceeded to push it sideways up the hill and causing it to roll over three times coming to a rest upside down. There was immediate screaming of first names with hopes of answers. The mom did not answer.

There was blood coming from the chest of the eleven year old as he realized that he could see the bottom half and legs of his Mom sticking through the broken side window from inside an upside down Scout. He also noticed a suitcase had wedged in the back which prevented crushing of his mother's chest. The smell of gas was everywhere.

Ambulances came and took everyone to the hospital. Miraculously no one was killed. Everyone had cuts and scraps. The young boy's mother was hurt the most from the head injury where her head smashed through the side window with gasoline pouring into her eyes and ears from the ruputured tank above. Headaches and severe vertigo continued for weeks until a friend suggested that she see her chiropractor. He found subluxations in cervical spine. The whole family started under chiropractic care. That lady was my Mom and I was the eleven year old and I witnessed the incredible return to normal health of my Mom.

I chiseled my name in a favorite stone bridge beside my house that summer in 1965. I remember spending a lot of time at that bridge in the country thinking about the future and what life could possibly be like as a chiropractor. I decided then that I would become the best chiropractor that I could. This summer my son Kyle is eleven years old. In two weeks he will carve his name in the bridge beside mine. I am going to tell him the story about me when I was eleven and all the things that I thought of while chiseling my name in the bridge. My eyes begin to tear up just thinking about it now.

What does Chiropractic mean to me? It caused an eleven year old boy to commit to a profession that changed the life of his Mother. Chiropractic is important enough to pass on to future generations. It is to me the profession that makes the most sense in all of health care today.
I believe that I was fortunate early on to know what I would do when I chose my life's work. I also believe that good things can always happen from tragedies ...if we look for the answers. Chiropractic is a profession of answers. It seems to me that as more research is completed it continued to show that chiropractic care can be helpful for all of the conditions the we see improve in our offices everyday.

This is a very satisfying time for me in practice to see the great acceptance of chiropractic. I do not see a decrease in people's want for the natural health care that chiropractic provides. We, as chiropractors, just have to continue to understand the trends of the way people can receive care from our offices. Chiropractic is importance enough for me to learn new avenues (managed care) that can promote the continued increased utilization of chiropractic care. I am willing to do whatever it takes within the ethical and moral framework I have chosen to live my life to tell the truth about chiropractic care.

Chiropractic is a profession that naturally right just like Dr. Jim Parker has always said. I believe that is the first level of health care that should be considered for a great deal of what people go to the medical profession for. However, chiropractic is so radically right that is has taken time for people to see the common sense in it.

Chiropractic allows me to perform a specialized unique service that has the potential to totally change someone's life for the better for the rest of their life with no side effects, and it does not require 10 million dollars a day in marketing to get people to use our service. What it requires is me being willing to tell people the truth in large crowds or one on one.

Chiropractic means that I have a service that is so good that people are willing to come to my office and be seen at a schedule that is convenient for both the patient and for me.

This was written in the summer of 1997 for a presentation to the High Country Knights of the Chiropractic Round Table.

Just as Cute!

Ok, Silas just did not want to be outdone by Noah. He wanted a short Video about Him too. So as a good Dad - I just had to do as he asked. I promise this blog will not just be ablout my kids. But really can you blame me?

Dr. Rob

Just Too Cute

Just Too Cute. Noah is now 6 years old. He was about a year old here. It amazes me how we now have the ability to capture and remember parts of our lives. The really important parts. It makes me wonder about the parts of my lives that I just need to forget and move on rather than running the bad movie over and over. Hmmm. Do You have any of those you need to stop running too?

New Healthy Energy Drink

I had another Chiropractor send me some samples of a new Healthy energy drink that I think is just amazing. I have only had TWO serving in two days and not only do I love the taste - but I can really tell the difference.

I believe that it is so good that I am strongly considering offering it to my patients - because it is so healthy and it solves a concern that many patients are looking for - namly getting More Energy.

Am I keeping it a secret? Well yes for now - for a few days. I am investigating the company and the product - doing my due diligence so that - if and when I do offer it to my patients and friends - I can be sure that it is - what I think it is.

I will keep you posted.

Here is some detailed information about my "mystery drink"

XXX is a breakthrough energy drink that generates a super- charged nutrient uptake into your body's cells within 10-15 minutes! As a result, you will experience the healthy, full body revitalization that only XXX can deliver... for hours at a time!

Spinal Health Care Class

Last night, I had one of my spinal health care classes. I talked about the importance of great spinal care - but just as important - I talked about the "Other" four areas that create health in our bodies. I talked about the "Health Care System" and how it really is the "Dis-ease Care System". No disrepect intended toward my other professioanl colleagues in the health care community. The system IS what the system is. I TOO work in the dis-ease care system as long a I am working on a treatment plan that has to do with monitoring symptoms and trying to reduce or elimiante them.

Ah - But - Real Health Care - This is the type of care that works with people that are not trying to chase down - or cover-up the symptoms they present with. This system deals with trying to correct the undelying problem CAUSING the symptom. This is the system that deals with maximizing our HEALTH. Ultimately - doing the things that healthy people do.

Things like: exercising, eating right, drinking water, sleeping right, and maintining positive expectant attitudes. Beliving in the the better future of our lives. Believe so much that we actually take action about planning for a better healthier way of life.

Doing things like buying some new running shoes - when you have not run in years - expecting to do it. Like signing up for a marathon in 8 months - when you have NEVER run more than 3 miles at one time in your life. Like - finally making an appointment to come and see me in my office to find out if chiropractic can help your problem that you have been taking pain medication for for the past 5 years. hmm.

Expect to get well. Come in and visit with me for a few minutes to see if I think I can help you.

My office

I thought it might be nice to display a picture of my office. In fact, I 'm not sure why but I do not think I have a picture of my office on my website. I think I need to correct that. I have been here for 26 years and we are just about out of space. within the next 5 years I plan to be in a bigger space or another building to handle all o the growth we have been experiencing in the past several years.

I have approximately 3000 square feet in this facility and we use almost every area.

Time flies when you - BUSY

Last Saturday I "pulled an all nighter". I haven't done that for a long time. But my wife Marla and Son Noah were gone visiting a friend that had just had a baby in Texas. (Thank goodness for Delta Skymiles and free trips associated with them!) So, I had a weekend to do what I wanted to... I wanted to work ON my Practice and not just IN my practice. I had a few patient files - Personal Injury reports to do - but I mainly worked on improving the systems of my practice.

I have been using a wonderful paper scanning system to transfer much of the paper in my practice and store in on the secure server. I have 5 different daily backups of the data and it is really making the communication system so much more efficient. All of the staff have e-mail that we send all of the paperwork in the practice with PDF attachment so much of the practice is becoming paperless.

I when up to Fort Wayne hospital to see my father. He has been there for about a week now. Dehydrated and weak... I took him some protein drinks, protein bars, and whole food supplements ... He is not really doing all that well. I wonder .... My Mom passed away in October of 2003 and all of this just makes you sit down and wonder what all the business and fast flying time is all about.

I got a call from my oldest son Kyle on the way back from visiting with my Dad. I am so proud of him. He is spending a year - maybe more -with a wonderful group called the Masters Commission in Phoenix, Arizona at the First Phoenix Church of God. It is a terrific mix between a mentoring, discipleship, and bible college rolled into a fabulous life experience. He is a part of something in his life that for a whole year straight - he will be creating wonderful memories. He always starts off his conversation with me with "Dad I have been SO BUSY!!!" I think to myself.... that is what he has always seen from parents - how could he do any thing less? I plan to create many more memories with him when he gets home for the summer.

I have always been BUSY in my life. As I get older, and hopefully wiser, I am making great strides in being busy with the things that will be the important things for me or others to remember. When I was in the Hospital visiting my Dad I found my self saying things like..."Dad remember when I was little and you......" You know the kind of story. You see, THAT is what we want to have to talk about with those that we love, The REMEMBER WHEN's.....

Life is not all about getting great chiropractic care... But part of it is... The trick is "Remembering When" to do the right things in our lives on a consistent basis.

I "remember when" for a lot of things my life. I don't talk about them all to everyone. Some "remember whens" are just for you to remember.

Those are the ones you remember when time flies by too fast and you stop to take inventory of what is happening... You know what I mean? When was the last time in your busy day you took time to do a "Remember When"? Do you remember?

Take a moment today - do some "remember whens" and give them a call!
